| (33 km from Ragusa;
17.176 inhabitants; 20 m a.s.l.; ZIP 97016; area code 0932).
Is
the only sea-municipality in the province, and is extended on a
beautiful, attractive and very frequented shore. The importance
of Pozzallo dates from the 14th century, the town representing a
military and commercially strategic point of the County of Modica.
There, in fact, the Count wanted the construction of a "Caricatore"
(a group of warehouses, equipped and disposed for the load of ships)
around which the earliest district of the village, the "Quartiere
Scaro" rose. This is very characteristic in its smallest and
strict alley.
The
Torre Cabrera, wanted by Giovanni Bernardo Cabrera in 1429, is a
worth-seeing tourist site. It has been recently restored and equipped
as to receive tourists.
The Palazzo Musso, a beautiful liberty style building, from 1926,
stands right behind the Torre. The Villa Tedeschi is another interesting
site, also rising in the centre of the town.
A little group of salted ponds, in the environs of Pozzallo, are
an interesting destination for bird watching lovers.
